I also never bought into Prince in his hey-day except for a blues tunes or two. What did totally sell me for him as an accomplished guitarist was seeing and hearing him rock his
Telecaster like I've heard nobody play like that for a long time.I think it was a buch of award shows that happened to be farely grouped together.Granted it was just a few tunes but you could tell were his talent was just pouring out. The early stuff I was not into at all. Purple Rain was a worthy effort.

I don't know what bugs me more - Jeff Lynne or Paul Schaffer.

" I don't know what bugs me more - Jeff Lynne or Paul Schaffer. "

I get the Paul Schaffer thing, have you ever watched the "Concert for George" DVD that Eric Clapton produced on the one year anniversary of the passing of George Harrison?

Even if ELO is not your cup of tea, it provides an interesting perspective into the musicianship of Jeff Lynne. And if you still feel strongly about Lynne, the performances by Ravi & Anoushka Shankar, Joe Brown, Jools Holland, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ringo, Paul, Eric and Georges son Danny are well worth the price of admission.
